The difference between terry cloth and microfiber is relatively simple. Microfiber is made of synthetic polyester and nylon textiles and terry cloth is created with cotton and is constructed with loops that cover the entire surface of the fabric. These fabric loops are highly absorbent and ideal for car wash towels. Terry cloth car wash towels are best used for drying the exterior of the vehicle during the cleaning process.  Terry cloth does not hold as much liquid as microfiber but they make a great option for car washes and detail shops located in colder climates.

One cannot simply assume that because they live in a region that experiences a true winter they will only need terry cloth towels during those winter months. There are plenty of regions that will experience warm fronts throughout the winter months that bring early fall or late spring temperature into a region. This is the ideal time to rest the terry cloth towels and break out the microfiber towels.
